Venerable Mugunuwela Anuruddha Thero, Chief Secretary of the All Ceylon Sasanarakshaka Mandal, said that this year’s State Vesak Festival will be held at the ancient temple of Midellawala in Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya in the Matara District.
The Thero made this statement while speaking at a media briefing held at the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious Affairs and Cultural Affairs this afternoon (10).
Venerable Mugunuwela Anuruddha Thero said that the third session of the Buddha Sasana Sabha, newly established by the current government, was held today and this decision was taken there.
Speaking at the event, Venerable Mugunuwela Anuruddha Thero, Chief Secretary of the All Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Board, said,
“It has been decided to hold the State Vesak festival at the ancient temple in Midellawala, Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya in the Matara district. It was decided today by the Buddha Sasana Sabha, the Minister of Buddha Sasana and the Deputy Minister to hold it in the Matara district this year.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Professor Chandana Abeyratne, met with the Malwathu and Asgiri Maha Thero and announced on January 24 that the government had decided to hold this year’s State Vesak festival on May 30.
