Balangoda Kassapa Thero and his group still not on bail today.

Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero and his group, who were arrested in connection with the Trincomalee Buddha statue incident, have been remanded until the 11th. This order was issued when the relevant case was taken up before the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court today (09).

The group thus remanded includes Venerable Trincomalee Kalyanawansa Tissa Thero, the incumbent of the Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi Bodhiraja Viharaya located on the Fort Road in Trincomalee, Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero, Venerable Trincomalee Sukhithawansa Tissa Thero and Venerable Nanda Thero, along with 10 others.

The case was filed following a complaint filed by the Coastal Conservation and Coastal Resources Management Department alleging that an unauthorized hut was built and a Buddha statue was placed within the coastal protection zone of Trincomalee town.
