The Attorney General’s Department has reportedly decided to file a case in the High Court against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake on charges of causing a loss of over Rs. 1.66 billion to the government during a private trip to attend a function at the University of Wolverhampton in the UK.
Based on the investigation reports conducted under the leadership of former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department Shani Abeysekara, the necessary steps to name the relevant individuals as defendants and file a case are currently in the final stages.
Considering the special nature of this case, Additional Solicitor General Dilip Peiris has informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that the Attorney General intends to request the Chief Justice to appoint a three-member High Court bench to hear the case.
