The Colombo Commercial High Court has issued an injunction against Suresh Maliyedda and five others for staging and staging musical performances based on the Sinhala film Rhythm of Guitar, based on the life story of the late Clarence Wijewardene, without the permission of Art Movies (PVT) Limited.
The order was issued in connection with a case initiated by the film’s production company.
The complaint states that the defendants, working in conjunction with several parties, have advertised that they are planning a series of public musical performances in London and other foreign cities without obtaining the necessary permission from the producer, and have presented them as Rhythm of Guitar musical performances.
The complaint states that under the existing law, all copyrights and economic rights in the film primarily belong to the producer.
Thushara Samanpali Amarasiri, along with lawyers Ali Sabry, Shamit Fernando, Shehani Alwis and Namik Nafat, appeared for the plaintiff production company.
