Colombo Municipal Council Finance Committee to Opposition

The five members nominated by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya-led opposition have been elected in the election to appoint members to the Colombo Municipal Council Finance Committee.

The election to appoint members to the Finance Committee was held yesterday (14) and it is noteworthy that all the candidates nominated by the ruling National People’s Party were defeated.

Accordingly, opposition MPs Anura Sujeewa, Roy Bogahawatte, Tharanga Shanaka, Dayaratne Perera, and M. Arshad Nizamdeen have been elected to the Finance Committee.

The appointment of standing committees for the Colombo Municipal Council was scheduled for yesterday, and representatives were appointed to the Finance Committee, one of the main committees of the council.

The mayor was elected unopposed as the chairperson, but the opposition was able to appoint members of the opposition for the remaining 5 members, said Colombo Municipal Council Opposition Leader Riza Saruk.

The executive power of the Finance Committee belongs to the ruling party, but its legislative power belongs to the opposition, so he said that he will support the good work and proposals presented by the ruling party and will oppose proposals that are detrimental to the people.
