A US special operations force has seized a cargo ship carrying military equipment from China to Iran in the Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The incident took place last month, and the naval operation was carried out with the aim of preventing Iran from rebuilding its military power, the sources said.
The raid was carried out by troops attached to the US Indo-Pacific Naval Command, and the ship was allowed to leave after seizing the military equipment on board.
The reports also state that US intelligence agencies have been monitoring the ship’s movements for several months. The Wall Street Journal says that there has been no official response from China or Iran regarding the incident.
