The Mihintale Police have reportedly arrested three suspects for burning and torturing and killing a sick wild elephant in the Seeppukulam area.
A video clip showing the group burning and torturing the wild elephant with fire was also circulated on social media, and it is reported that the group has been arrested accordingly.
The wild elephant that was subjected to this torture was roaming in the Seeppukulam area of the Mihintale Police Division. The post-mortem examination conducted on the elephant’s death has concluded that it died due to kidney and liver disease and shock from the burns, the police said. In addition, the elephant was blind, according to local residents.
The three people arrested by the Mihintale Police for allegedly setting a wild elephant on fire and committing animal cruelty are residents of the same area. The three are scheduled to be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court today (18).
