Substandard medicines are coming to the country due to fraudulent agreements with India

The National People’s Power government has distorted the existing system through agreements signed with India, cutting off the path for Indian pharmaceutical companies to access our patients without hindrance and without inspection, the Frontline Socialist Party states.

Expressing his views on the suspension of the use of several types of medicines imported from India, he said:

“A number of other drugs manufactured by the Indian company Maan Pharmaceuticals Ltd have been found to be substandard and have been withdrawn from use.

There was a system in place to ensure the quality of drugs provided to patients in Sri Lanka. What Keheliya did was to open the door to substandard drugs through emergency purchases and issuance of registration waiver letters while that system was still in place.

We suspected that the National People’s Power government would distort the existing system through the agreements signed on April 5, 2025, and block the way for Indian pharmaceutical companies to access our patients without hindrance and without inspection.

That is why we raised the voice of “Tear up the Anura-Modi fake agreements.” Even today, those agreements are a secret from the people. They are kept secret because there is a problem that makes it difficult to show them.

Today, those warnings are becoming a reality. But it is happening at the cost of lives.

We have asked the then Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa and the Malaimaveda to not allow this destruction. Appealed to the representatives. They said that talking about these things after the loss of human lives is useless.

Even if it is too late, open these agreements to the public at this very moment. If there is a social opinion that these are harmful, then withdraw from those agreements..
