Indictment against Piumi Hansamali

The Inland Revenue Department said that it will file indictments before the Colombo High Court against Aura Lanka Chairman Viranjith Thambugala and model Piumi Hansamali Gomes, who is said to have become a millionaire in a short time, for evading taxes.

However, the department told the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today that it has not yet received instructions from the Attorney General in this regard.

These facts were revealed when the complaint filed by the Inland Revenue Commissioner against Aura Lanka Chairman Viranjith Thambugala and model Piumi Hansamali Gomes as respondents was taken up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Oshadha Mihara Maharachchi.

Attorney-at-Law Dinesh Perera, appearing for the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, stated that although the above-mentioned complaints have been referred to the Attorney General, the Attorney General’s instructions have not been received yet.

The Additional Magistrate, who considered the facts presented on behalf of the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, ordered that the progress of the investigation be presented to the court on the 29th of April.
