Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama yesterday ordered a young woman who pleaded guilty to digitally converting several photographs of a young woman into obscene images and circulating them on the internet to pay compensation of Rs. 50,000 and a fine of Rs. 5,000.
The Magistrate ordered the accused young woman, who was found guilty of two counts of copying the young woman’s photos from Facebook, digitally converting them into obscene images and releasing them on the internet, to pay a fine of Rs. 2,500 for each count and a compensation of Rs. 25,000 each.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to pay Rs. 50,000 as compensation to the aggrieved young woman.
The Computer Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department had filed charges against the suspect following a complaint filed by the young woman, a resident of Colombo.
