The University Teachers’ Association says that its association rejects the letter sent to universities by the Chairman of the University Grants Commission as a bill has not been passed in Parliament that would allow doctors and professors from other departments to participate in the voting for the appointment of university deans and vice-chancellors.
The association’s media spokesperson, Charudatta Ilangasinghe, says that all elections related to those appointments have been temporarily suspended.
He says that the letter sent by the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Professor Kapila Seneviratne, is problematic and that he will discuss the matter with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya on December 19.
