The death toll in 12 districts due to the prevailing bad weather conditions has risen to 123
According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), 51 deaths have been reported in the Kandy district as of 09.00 this morning. This is the highest number of deaths reported from a district.
35 deaths have been reported in Badulla district, 09 in Kegalle, 08 in Matale, 06 in Nuwara Eliya, 03 in Kurunegala and 02 in Monaragala. 01 death each has been reported in Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Hambantota and Galle districts.
According to the Disaster Management Centre, 130 people are reported to have gone missing during this period. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the death toll may rise further.
43,925 people from 13,690 families affected by the adverse weather conditions have been placed in 488 temporary shelters.
