Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said that the decision to extend school hours by half an hour was taken after discussions with all relevant parties including trade unions.
However, the Principals’ Association, which has expressed its views on the extension of school hours, says that the government has reached this decision without studying any facts.
Addressing a media briefing held today (03), the General Secretary of the Association, Nimal Mudunkotuwa, said that the government should disclose the reasons behind the decision.
President of the All Ceylon United Teachers’ Association, Ven. Yalwela Pannasekara Thero, said that his associations have not expressed any agreement so far in the discussions held regarding the relevant decision.

This decision was reached after discussions and dialogues with trade unions throughout the year.
