A 50% tariff will be imposed on India, which has not fulfilled its conditions, while a 19% tariff will be imposed on Pakistan, which has fulfilled the conditions, says former Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
He points out that Pakistan has agreed to buy American oil, provide the opportunity to mine rare mineral resources in the country and provide digitalization work to American companies.
Accordingly, the US has agreed to certain conditions for imposing a 20% tariff on Sri Lanka, similar to Pakistan, and he points out that the government should disclose them to the country.
Mr. Weerawansa states that, as far as he has come to know, the government of Sri Lanka has agreed to dangerous agreements such as establishing a US naval base in Trincomalee, granting immunity from immigration laws to those going there, siding with America in any international vote against America, and allowing the US military to use the country’s roads, ports and airports in the event of a state of emergency.
The former minister said this while joining a discussion with an online channel.
