Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has requested permission from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to make a statement regarding the allegations against him for misappropriating funds of the Fertilizer Corporation while he was working there in 2015, the Sunday Times reports.
Responding to the request, the Commission has informed Minister Kumara Jayakody that he can submit the facts in writing if necessary.
However, the Sunday Times newspaper says that due to the Minister’s request, legal action against him is likely to be further delayed.
Earlier, the Commission had granted approval to Director General Ranga Dissanayake to file a case in the Magistrate’s Court against the Minister and two others over allegations of misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs. 8 million.
