Don’t ask questions about asset declarations, says Handunnetti

Minister Sunil Handunnetti says that he should not be asked questions about his asset declaration that he has submitted and that he should file a complaint with the Bribery Commission if necessary. He said this in a discussion with Derana journalist Kavindu Karunaratne.

He also stated that he cannot allow the media to conduct an examination regarding his assets. He also said that a person submits asset declarations not to question someone when they meet him on the street.

Refusing to answer the questions asked in this regard, the Minister said:

”I may or may not answer your question. It is not fair for us to examine this here. There is a law in the country. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has not made these asset records public so that people can ask questions when they meet on the street.”

Responding to this, journalist Kalindu Karunaratne said:

“I did not meet you on the street. This is a television interview. The public is watching. I have the right to ask questions. You can remain silent if you wish. There is a question about the credibility of the way you presented your assets and liabilities. It is also seen that you made a mockery of the assets and liabilities law.”

At this point, a heated exchange of words could be seen between Minister Sunil Handunnetti and presenter Kalindu Karunaratne.
