The Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, says that he has requested the trade unions to support the restructuring that the government is carrying out with the aim of making the Sri Lanka Electricity Board a profitable institution.
The Minister emphasized that it is irrational for trade unions to take action when the government is committed to providing continuous and affordable electricity to the people.
Under this restructuring, it has been proposed to convert the Electricity Board into six 100 percent government-owned companies, of which four companies have already been established, he said.
The Minister expressed these views regarding the intensification of the actions initiated by the electricity workers’ trade unions in protest against the restructuring program of the Electricity Board.
