Security beefed up for the VIP’s

IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya has issued a special set of instructions to senior police officers.

The main objective of this is to develop a system to verify the true identity of all officers deployed for the security of state leaders including the President, Prime Minister, and ministers in advance.

The IGP emphasizes that it is mandatory to verify the identity of individuals in uniform during security activities. Accordingly, the information of officers engaged in any service including security duties, traffic control, and health should be checked accurately.

He has also instructed them to be more vigilant when issuing colorful wristbands, belts, badges or other symbols used to identify security zones during special events.

The IGP points out that there is a threat of committing crimes while wearing clothes that resemble the uniforms of the armed forces or the police.

Recent incidents, such as a fake lawyer shooting a person in court, have led to such measures being taken.
