Based on information provided by an organized criminal named ‘Backo Saman’ who is being detained and questioned, another close associate of his was arrested today (14) in Suriyawewa by officers of the Tangalle Crime Investigation Division.
The person arrested is a 39-year-old man known by the alias Sevanagala Namal.
According to information revealed during interrogations of Backo Saman, it was revealed that while investigations were being conducted to arrest the suspect, he fled to the Ampara area and later to the Polonnaruwa area.
However, he had returned to the Suriyawewa area a few days ago and the police have arrested the suspect based on information received that he was roaming in that area in a van.
The police have also recovered a foreign-made pistol, 40 live bullets and 250 grams of heroin from the suspect’s possession. The suspect has been handed over to the Suriyawewa Police and is scheduled to be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court.
