The Kandy Night Market held near the Temple of the Tooth Relic has been moved to Yatinuwara Street since last night. It is reported that the organizers have been forced to take this decision due to various parties expressing their opposition to this exhibition and the festival.
The Central Provincial Council, headed by the Chief Secretary and Mayor of Kandy, organized this night market. However, the organizers have been forced to take this decision in the face of criticism that it is inappropriate to organize such a market near the Temple of the Tooth Relic.
Several parties say that such festivals should not be held within the range of the drumming that is performed during the Thewawa ceremony at the Sri Dalada Maligawa, and Kandy Municipal Councillor Ranjith Fernando has also suggested that it be moved to Bogambara or another suitable location.
