It is reported that about ten people have been hospitalised so far in the bus accident that occurred near the 24th milepost on the Ella Wellawaya road yesterday evening. The bus, which fell about 500 feet into a precipice, is currently lying near the Kirindi Oya, according to relief workers.
Rescue workers say that due to this, they have had to make a lot of effort to bring the injured to safety. Relief teams are descending with the help of ropes and a large crowd has gathered at the scene. The army, police and fire services are contributing to the rescue operations along with the residents of the area.
The accident occurred when a bus carrying a group who had come to Ella for a picnic was returning. There were 34 people travelling in the bus.
