A serious conflict has arisen between the Public Utilities Commission and the Electricity Board regarding the proposal made by the Ceylon Electricity Board to increase electricity tariffs by 18.3%.
It is also said that although the Electricity Board has proposed to increase electricity tariffs, the Public Utilities Commission has opposed it. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance has also approved the increase in electricity tariffs requested by the Electricity Board.
In this situation, the Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to announce its opinion on the revision of electricity tariffs today. The International Monetary Fund has also strongly told the government that the electricity tariff should be increased by 18.3%.
