The case related to the rape of a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Hospital was taken up at the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court today (28) and the suspect was presented for an identification parade. It is reported that the victim female doctor has identified the suspect.
The identification parade was held at the Magistrate’s office and the suspect stated that he had to make a special statement in person. The Magistrate said that he would consider allowing him to do so after examining his mental health.
The identification parade was postponed on two occasions due to the complainant female doctor not appearing before the court for the suspect identification parade.
Since further investigations into the incident are underway, the police requested that the suspect be further remanded. Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded until April 10.
President’s Counsel Kalinga Indratissa appeared on behalf of the rights of the complainant-victim doctor.
