Archaeologist Professor Raj Somadeva said that the excavations carried out so far in the mass graves found at the Colombo Port site have identified the skeletons of 16 people, including the skeletons of two young children.
The professor said that this mass grave was not a regular burial ground and that the way the bodies were buried showed that they had been murdered. He stated that the time of these events can be determined after a scientific examination and that reports will be provided as per the court’s instructions.
He said that 13 skeletons have been identified so far, and in addition, a considerable number of broken parts have been found.
He also pointed out that the skeletons of three more people are to be identified.
