The date for the hearing of the sugar tax petition will be fixed.

The Supreme Court ordered to convene on April 02 to consider the fundamental rights petition filed claiming that the government lost 1,590 crore rupees in the reduction of taxes imposed on imported sugar in 2020.

This petition today (12) S. This order was given when they were summoned before the three-member Supreme Court bench of S. Thureiraja, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe and Janak de Silva.

This petition has been submitted on 12 March 2021 by Sunil Hadunnetthi, a former Member of Parliament of Janatha Vimukti Peramuna.

On behalf of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Attorney General, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Presidential Secretary P.B. Jayasundara, Finance Ministry Secretary S.R. Artigala, Sathosa former chairman Nushad Perera, Pyramid Wilma Company, its chairman Sajath Mausoon, Consumer Service Authority chairman Shantha Dissanayake and the Attorney General were named as respondents in the petition.
