Minister of State for Technology Kanaka Herath revealed that there are two million SIM cards in the country where the user’s identity is not properly verified. He said this while joining the debate on the Sri Lanka Telecommunications (Amendment) Bill held today in Parliament.
He mentioned that due to this situation, serious problems have arisen in finding some criminal cases and before 2018, ID cards were not required to get SIM cards.
The Minister of State further said that the Sri Lanka Telecommunications (Amendment) Bill has introduced laws to take action against those who submit false information while obtaining SIM cards.
