Requests the court to arrest Maithripala Sirisena

The lawyers of the plaintiff party are asking the court to issue orders for the arrest of Maithripala Sirisena in connection with the Easter bomb attack.

Ovdunwa made this request when the case was called again on the 10th of Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.

Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama told the Criminal Investigation Department to either name him as a suspect or speed up the investigation and report on the truth or falsity of the statement made by former President Maithripala Sirisena.

The magistrate informed that on the first day of hearing the case filed by the three parties namely the Criminal Investigation Department, People’s Struggle Citizens Organization and Mr. Kavinda Jayawardena regarding the former president’s statement regarding the Easter attack.

When the case was brought up again today, the Criminal Investigation Department said that the two statements given, as well as the information revealed in the CCTV footage, are contradictory, so further investigations should be carried out.

The plaintiff party stated that an order should be issued for the arrest of former President Maithripala Sirisena in connection with the Easter bomb attack.

Maligakanda Magistrate Mrs. Lochani Abeywickrama stated that if it appears that any mistake has been made during the conduct of appropriate investigations, appropriate legal measures should be taken after proper observation.

Accordingly, this case is scheduled to be called again on July 26.
