Minister Mahinda Amaraweera states that after Sri Lanka signed an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, people across the country lit firecrackers not because of receiving a loan.
He said that the people have expressed their happiness because Sri Lanka got rid of the bankruptcy that had been going on for about a year.
He points out that the main advantage of entering into an agreement with the International Monetary Fund is that Sri Lanka is freed from bankruptcy rather than receiving a loan and now there is a situation where letters of credit from banks in Sri Lanka are accepted by foreign banks.
He further said that through this, the country will be able to import essential materials such as fuel, medicines, food.
He expressed these views while addressing the debate in Parliament regarding the agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
