The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union (CEBEU) says that due to the current dry weather conditions and insufficient rainfall in the catchment areas, thermal power production has increased to 57%.

It has reached its full capacity. However, with the onset of dry weather, hydropower generation has decreased to 87%.
Accordingly, the thermal power generation is 56.7 percent, of which 45 percent is generated using fuel and the remaining power generation is done using fuel oil.
In addition, the Lakvijaya Power Plant at Norachole is playing a crucial role in contributing to the total electricity production in Sri Lanka, generating about 900 MW, according to the Society of Engineers of CEB.
