A young man who posted insulting posts for Rajapaksa family was sentenced to prison.

A young man who pleaded guilty to the charges of publishing news insulting to the Rajapaksa family through social media during the last corona epidemic has been sentenced to a suspended prison sentence by the court. A youth resident of Tissamaharama Kavantissapura has admitted the crime.

This sentence was imposed after he accepted before the court that the news that he published on social media that 548 members of the Rajapaksa family had been given free food and drinks by the navy during the corona epidemic was false.

Accordingly, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court ordered that the sentence of six months imprisonment with hard labor imposed on the young man be suspended for 5 years. The case was filed by the Computer Crime Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
