The onion issue will be settle in a fortnight.

Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Safety Nalin Fernando says that he admits that consumers were inconvenienced by the unusual increase in onion prices in the local market after India stopped the import of onions. The minister made these comments at a press conference held at the Presidential Media Center (PMC) under the theme “A collective path to a stable country”.

He said that Pakistan will take advantage of stopping India’s export of onion by imposing an export tax and therefore it will not be practical to import onion from Pakistan.

However, it has been learned that India is ready to lift the onion export ban in the next two weeks and accordingly the price of onion will drop within a fortnight, the minister said.
