A circular has been issued canceling the leave of all employees of Ceylon Electricity Board until further notice. CEB Acting General Manager Engineer (Dr.) Narendra De Silva has issued the said circular today.
According to the provisions of Extraordinary Gazette No. 2363/02 published on 18 December 2023, President Ranil Wickramasinghe declared all services related to the Electricity Supply Notice as essential public services.
However, employees may take leave for urgent needs with the approval of an Executive Officer attached to the concerned Divisions or Branches.
In addition, the CEB Employees Union announced that it plans to launch a three-day industrial action starting today, urging the Minister of Power and Energy to withdraw the Electricity Board Restructuring Bill.
