Aranayake Police said that a doctor of Aranayake District Hospital was arrested this morning for allegedly sexually assaulting a young female doctor on duty. The suspected doctor is 45 years old and the victim is 28 years old.
The police said that the arrested doctor will be produced before the Mawanella Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.
The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by the victim doctor’s father. The victim doctor alleges that the suspected doctor touched her inappropriately while on duty. Statements have been recorded from five other staff members present at the time of the incident.
The concerned doctor will be examined by the forensic medical officer of the Kegalle Teaching Hospital, the police said.
