Minister of State for Higher Education Dr. Suren Raghavan said that certain universities are planning to invite politicians and presidential candidates to the universities and such measures should be stopped.
“I got to know that some university politicians are trying to invite presidential candidates to universities. Please stop playing university politics. Universities are for studies. Politics can be discussed within that scope. It should never be partial. The senate and its academics should decide who should be invited to universities for functions,” he said.
The Minister of State said this at a news conference held at the Government Information Department. Meanwhile, the Inter-University Students’ Union has started a protest near the entrance of the university since last night against the visit of President Ranil Wickremesinghe to Kelaniya University.
