Samagi Jana Balawega MP Rajitha Senaratne asks why a presidential election is held at the cost of crores of national wealth if the executive presidency is abolished.
He said that the priority should not be given to holding elections when the people are not even able to feed themselves, adding that the local government elections could not be held due to the country’s financial crisis.
He mentioned that everyone should come together to build the country without thinking about political gains in the next election, and whenever the country is in crisis, politicians have a responsibility to put their personal opinions aside and come together for the people.
He mentioned that building the country out of the current crisis cannot be done by a single leader or party, and after all come together and free the country from the crisis, politics can be divided into parties. He said this while expressing his views in front of the media when he came to Kandy to worship Sri Dalada Maliga.
