Dr. Palitha Mahipala, secretary of the Ministry of Health, said that the special vaccination program for measles will be held today (06) from 09.00 am to 04.00 pm, due to the spread of measles at an epidemic level.
For 06-09 month infants at District 09 Medical Officer of Health divisional level . The dose of measles vaccine is to be given here. Vaccination is also scheduled for adults who have not received any dose of measles vaccine.
He said that the vaccination program will be implemented in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Kandy, Jaffna, Kurunegala and Kalmunai, where measles cases are most reported.
In 2019, Sri Lanka was certified by the World Health Organization as a country that has eradicated measles.
