Pastor Jerome Fernando, who was wanted by the Criminal Investigation Department for a controversial Sunday sermon, arrived in Sri Lanka from Katunayake Bandaranaike Airport some time ago, according to our airport reporter.
Pastor Jerome Fernando, who was under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department for controversial statements against Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism, left the country on May 15 this year. Even then, several parties had complained to the Criminal Investigation Department to arrest him under the ICCPR Act.
Responding to a writ petition filed by the pastor, the appellate court ordered the police not to arrest him at the airport or anywhere else.
In addition, the court also told the pastor to give a statement to the Criminal Investigation Department within 48 hours of his arrival on the island.
It is reported that two other passengers accompanied the pastor who arrived at Katunayake Airport on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha early this morning.
