Lawyers’ World Cup cricket tournament begins..

Lawyers Cricket World Cup – 2023 starts today at, Colombo P. Saravanamuthu stadium.

Its opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform, President’s Counsel, Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, The final of the tournament is scheduled to be held on the 6th of January at the Sinhala Sports Club Stadium.

The Lawyers World Cup cricket tournament was started in 2008 in Hyderabad, India, and the cricket tournament has been held on seven previous occasions. The prescribed number of overs for each team is 35.

10 teams are going to participate in this tournament, India A, India B, Bangladesh A, Bangladesh Team B, Pakistan A, Pakistan B, Commonwealth, England, Sri Lanka A, Sri Lanka B.

Minister of External Affairs, President’s Counsel, Ali Sabri, Attorney General, President’s Counsel, Sanjay Rajaratnam, President of Sri Lanka Bar Association, President’s Counsel, Kaushalya Navaratne, Former Sri Lanka Cricket Team Captain Arjuna Ranatunga, President of World Bar Cricket Council, R. Santhanakrishnan, Sri Ceylon Lawyer Cricket President, lawyer Piyal Munasinghe and a group of senior legal officers of the countries representing the teams on the match day joined the opening ceremony.

Arjuna Ranatunga, the former captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team, marked the opening of the tournament, and the team captains posed for a group photo with the Lawyers’ World Cup.
