Japan demands compensation from Sri Lanka for the work done by Ghota.

Japan has informed that it will resume the Japanese projects in this country only if Japan pays the expenses incurred for the Colombo Light Rail Project (LRT) project. It is reported that Japanese Finance Minister Suzuki Shunichi, who came to Sri Lanka for a two-day official visit, met the President and the opposition leader and emphasized this.

The Colombo light rail project, which was planned to be completed with a Japanese concessional loan of 1.5 billion dollars, was to be built from Malabe to Colombo Fort. Former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa canceled the project even though all the basic works had been started. The project was later taken to Bangladesh and the service was inaugurated last year under the name of Dhaka Metro Railway.
