New Sports Minister Harin Fernando states that the International Cricket Council does not accept interim committees. He said that the council does not accept political influence and mentioned that all things like eliminating corruption should be done only within the legal framework.
He said that the government’s money is not spent on cricket and only the International Cricket Council provides the necessary money for that game. He said that the cricket ban imposed on Sri Lanka should be removed immediately.
The minister said that it is more important to remove this ban for the players participating in the Under-19 World Cup cricket tournament and that they should try to bring the tournament back to Sri Lanka if possible.
He made these comments to the media after being sworn in as Sports Minister.
