Sports Minister Harin Fernando says that the ban imposed on Sri Lanka by the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be lifted before February 15.
He says that he had the opportunity to hold a very productive discussion with ICC CEO Geoff Allardice who came to Sri Lanka yesterday and that the ICC CEO also met President Ranil Wickremesinghe during his visit.
The minister further said that the ICC delegation was satisfied with the discussions held in Colombo recently and before their departure they gave the green light to lift the ban on Sri Lanka.
He said that the ICC delegation was aware of Sri Lanka’s sports constitution and asked to amend the regulations to match the ICC code of conduct. President Wickremesinghe has also expressed his wish to amend the current sports constitution, so we can look optimistically at the future.
The minister made these comments at a press conference held at the Colombo Tourism Ministry.
