Reverend Arachchi’s Don Wimal Siri Appuhami Jayasuriya has been appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis as the new Bishop of chillaw, says the Apostolic Representative Office in Sri Lanka.
Born on January 231, 1969, Father Jayasuriya was ordained as a priest in chillaw Diocese on August 9, 1997.
He holds a BA in Philosophy and Theology from Our Lady of Ceylon Seminary, Ampitiya.
After ordination and several years of pastoral service, he studied further at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome from 2000 to 2005, where he obtained a licentiate and then a doctorate in canon law in 2005.
Prior to his appointment as Diocese of chillaw , Father Jayasuriya served as the parish priest of St. Mary Mother Church in Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese while on a mission in the United States of America. He also held the role of Judge of the Episcopal Tribunal.
