Patmaka de Silva, Community Medical Specialist of the Family Health Bureau, says that the Suvanari Clinic in the village has all the facilities needed to diagnose cervical and breast cancer for all women between the ages of 35 and 45. He said this while addressing the press conference held yesterday (16) at the Health Promotion Bureau regarding cancer affecting women.
He said that the most common types of cancer among women are cervical, breast and alimentary tract cancer. He further said that the risk of cervical cancer can be detected early by the participation of sexually active women between 35 and 45 years of age in health clinics.
Dr. Patmaka de Silva said that all women can do a breast self-examination on the 7th or 10th day after the end of their monthly period, and by doing so, breast cancer can be detected early and showed the importance of participating in the village level clinic.
He emphasized that there will be no harm to the privacy and confidentiality of the participating women at the village clinic.
