Woman killed in Meetiyagoda shooting

A woman who worked as a cashier at a restaurant in Meetiyagoda, Kiralagahawela Junction, has died.

She was seriously injured in the shooting that occurred at around 8.30 pm today (17) and was admitted to hospital. The deceased is a 48-year-old woman from Meetiyagoda.

The shooting was carried out by two men on a motorcycle, and the police suspect that a pistol-type firearm was used to shoot.

The brother-in-law of Karandeniya Sudda was shot dead, and it is also said that the shooting was carried out in revenge for that incident. The Meetiyagoda Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

The number of shootings that have occurred so far this year has increased to 106, of which 54 people have died and 53 have been injured.
