Will EPF and ETF be abolished and pensions be given, says Labour Minister

Labour Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha said that the government has not taken any decision to abolish the Employees Provident Fund and the Employees’ Trust Fund and pay a pension instead.

He stated that this money is the public’s money and they can withdraw it without any hindrance after retirement. He said this while issuing a statement to the media today (09) regarding the rumor that the Employees Provident Fund will be converted into a pension.

He stated that his government will not work to cut the benefits of any person and will only work to provide more benefits.

Speaking further, Labour Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando said the following.

“It would be nice if we could get a pension. There has been a conversation in society about this.” But the government has not taken any decision to convert the money in this EPF into a pension and pay pensions instead of that single allowance.”
