Teachers teaching in government schools in the Western Province have been banned from conducting extra classes by charging money to students studying in their classes. This ban was imposed through a circular issued by the Western Provincial Council Education Ministry.
Principals have been instructed to inform all teachers in this regard and obtain a certificate to that effect. Disciplinary action is to be taken against teachers who disregard this instruction.
A similar ban is reported to be in effect in the Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.
