The Salt Producers’ Association says that there is a shortage of salt in the market. The chairman of the association, Ganaka Amarasinghe, said that this situation has arisen due to the delay in salt imports.
He says that the salt shortage will be controlled with the arrival of salt stocks to the island in the future. Some vendors are currently selling a 1kg packet of salt at between Rs 450 and Rs 500.
Vendors say that if the shortage continues, the price of a packet of salt will exceed Rs 800.
