Watawala Tea Company, a well-known tea brand in Sri Lanka, has issued a statement regarding the short film ”Him, Her and Them” released by the company. The statement states that due to public criticism regarding the film, it has been decided to withdraw the film from all platforms.
An official statement issued by Watawala Tea Company reads:
“As one of Sri Lanka’s most beloved tea brands, Watawala Tea has always believed in bringing people together and has long celebrated the warmth and strength of Sri Lankan families through our stories.
Our recent short film, ‘Him, Her and Them’, was created with that noble purpose in mind. It was intended to reflect the everyday emotions of family life, as well as the balance between strength and sensitivity that each child learns in their own way.
However, we understand that this film has been interpreted in a way that we never intended and that it has caused discomfort or anxiety among several of our valued customers. We express our regret for this.
As a brand, we have listened to your feedback and, out of respect for the common values that unite Sri Lankan families across generations, have decided to remove this film from our platforms.
