Twenty six hundred thousand adults have no income.

It has been revealed that nearly twenty-six lakhs of the elderly population in this country do not receive any type of fixed income to survive. Professor Wasantha Athukorala of the Department of Economics and Statistics of the University of Peradeni said this has been revealed by an analysis conducted by the university.

Among this group, some people have diposited a significant amount of money in banks as fixed deposits and lives on the monthly interest received from it, but due to the decrease in fixed deposit interest in the country, that income has also been lost.

He also said that the government should pay special attention to the elderly people who are being unfairly treated by interest rates.
