US President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose additional tariffs on several European countries. He has introduced the measure, linking it to global security concerns surrounding Greenland.
Trump said in a post on his Truth social media platform that new tariffs would be imposed on goods exported to the United States from countries including Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland.
According to the statement, a 10 percent tariff will be imposed on all goods from the listed countries starting February 1, 2026, and that the tariff will increase to 25 percent starting June 1, 2026.
Trump said the tariffs will be in effect until an agreement is reached to purchase Greenland in full.
Giving further details, the American President said that ‘it is time for Denmark to hand over Greenland’.
